Shotwell – Open Source Photomanager
On the internet I came across an article about a new piece of open source software for managing your photo’s.
It is being called a combination of F-spot (brrr) and Picasa with the emphasis on the best features of both programs combined into one application.
I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe it’s because I see you no practical use in Picasa (and it’s proprietary software!) and I have always discouraged people to use F-spot. See my my review for more info on F-spot. I will therefore not make a review about this software.
However, at Ubuntu they seem to like F-spot and Shotwell so much that they have placed this software in their repositories. See this article.
Note: read the discussing below the article. It will give you an idea of how crappy F-spot and Shotwell really are. No self-respecting photographer (amateur and professional) would ever want to use this software. Or even consider it.

By searching the internet and reading several articles Shotwell seems just another simple application with limited and poor features. Just like F-spot this program will automatically sort your images by date which can be VERY frustrating while using it. You can also sort your images by tags. This will – in many cases – still result in a complete mix up of all your images, because tagged pictures will still be sorted by date.
